* FREE classes will be held every other Wednesday throughout the summer for kids
ages 5-11 years. * Classes will always be from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. * Children participate in garden-themed
activities, while parents, grandparents, caregivers etc., enjoy the Greenhouse. * This year children will be planting,
maintaining, and harvesting a field of veggies, right on our farm. * Classes are planned and taught by Karen Moore,
K-6 Certified Teacher.
SCHEDULE:
Tuesday,
May 20. Special Planting Day. During a special session we will gather the plants for our vegetable
garden and plant them in the field. We will also make a sign to mark our area and a chart to record the garden's
progress.
Wednesday, June 11. Plants -- their parts and what they need to grow.
Wednesday, June 25. Kid's Container Garden. Each child
should bring their own unique container for planting flowers. (For example - old tonka truck, plastic wheel barrow,
sand pail, etc.). We will provide the soil and offer a choice of plants. We will learn about sun and shade plants.
Wednesday, July 2, 16, and 30. Butterflies. We
will be following the life cycle of the caterpillar and hatch butterflies. We will release them into the greenhouse
and learn about the importance of pollinating. Other July topics will be strawberries and herbs.
Wednesday,
August 13. Harvest Time. We will harvest vegetables and sample
them fresh out of the field. The children will be given some to take home.
Wednesday, August 20.
Harvest Celebration and Crafts. The kids will make something from
the veggies that they take home on the 13th and bring some back to share with everyone at our party.
Saturday,
October 4. Pumpkin Painting Workshop at our Art Under Glass festival.
