Fall Planting Tips

Mid-November is a safe planting deadline for most areas in our climate.

You ideally want to allow six weeks of root development before the ground freezes. However, if you are running behind schedule, it is still best to get plants out of their pots and in the ground before it freezes! Plants have a better chance of survival in the ground than in a container.

Fall Planting Tips

Mulch, mulch, mulch!

Mulch will add an extra insulatory layer which will help plants survive the challenges of winter.

Water!

Even though you will not typically see a lot of top growth on plants, roots are still actively growing. Provide supplemental water, especially on windy and/or dry days and continue to do so until the ground freezes.
