HOMEGROWN HAPPINESS: HOW OUR TAGLINE CAME TO BE AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU

What is a tagline, anyway and why does it matter? Well, we weren’t really sure of the answers when we decided to dig a little deeper into who we are as an organization and what we believe.

Now we know that a tagline or slogan is a ‘war cry,’ something that symbolizes what we ‘fight’ for each day and why we do what we do. Or ‘a phrase that expresses the aim or nature of an organization, or goal to be achieved.’ We were pretty clear on that.

Homegrown Happiness

THE HOMEGROWN HISTORY

We are third- and fourth-generation family from a farming heritage that dates back to 1917. Bob Bedner has been working on the family farm in Upper St. Clair since he was a child. And after Bob and Sue marry in 1977, and Russ is born a year later, they purchase a 42-acre farm in McDonald, PA and begin building greenhouses to grow more container gardens, annual flowers and perennials. They deliver all their homegrown produce and flowers to the family’s farm market until they open their own retail greenhouse in 1997.

Bedner’s Farm & Greenhouse is born.

WHAT HOMEGROWN LOOKS LIKE TODAY

Today, we are a thriving family farm, garden center and landscape business that grows more than three-quarters of the plants we sell.

In January of each year, the growing begins in 17 greenhouses right here on the farm. Inside you’ll find hanging baskets, potted annuals, herb and vegetable plants and perennials.

We also grow seasonal flowers, mums, pumpkins and more in our fields.

THE HAPPINESS PART

We love what we do. Growing is our livelihood, our history and our future. And we want to share it with you.

We feel a strong commitment to serving our community and making lives better through the benefits of nature, gardening, and the joy of growing, creating and being together in beautiful outdoor spaces.

Our mission is to connect people to the benefits of nature. We want you to feel your pulse slow down, your face and shoulders relax and your mind clear. Studies show that being in nature, around trees and other plants, relieves stress, actually lowers blood pressure, accelerates healing and makes us happier.

Sharing this happiness is an act of faith, resilience and love.

The people of Bedner’s Farm & Greenhouse are here to inspire future plant people and share their Homegrown Happiness. We care about the vast benefits to our environment, health and quality of life, and would love to share it all with you.
