Where do you live?
I live in Bethel Park (20 years), and my mom lives just up the street!
How many years have you had your business?
We have been doing floral designing for over 25 years together. We’ve done bunches and bunches of craft shows during those years, but we started using the brand Barn Door Florals in 2018 to build our Instagram following for a future Etsy page (coming soon!). I work out of my garage and she works in her spare room and we come together for shows and events like this wonderful one at Bedner’s. (Great job with it, especially in your first year of Community Market Days!)
What made you want to start this business?
My mom had gone through a serious medical issue in 1993-1994 and she wanted to do this as a way to de-stress and create. She asked me to work with her and we’ve done it together ever since.
What’s your favorite part about what you do?
The creativity is what keeps us motivated, it’s something we have in common together that makes us happy, and the people and customers we meet along the way are what we love about it.
Do you have any employees?
Nope…just us two
What are your future goals for the business?
We have been wanting to start an Etsy page and have our sights on set on getting a campaign up for this Christmas and then rollout fully in the beginning of 2022! It would definitely be great to be able to retire soon and do this full time!!
Interesting facts about you and/or your journey as a business owner?
Hmmmm…I always tell people to just start. Don’t worry about being perfect, having the perfect timing or the perfect space. Don’t be fearful, just start and as you grow, so will your business.
Besides our Community Market Days, how else can the public buy from you?
We do shows throughout the year, we do custom work, and we will have our Etsy store soon! In the meantime, you can find us @barndoorflorals on Instagram and Facebook, and hopefully you’ll see us on Etsy shortly!
