My Home is My Garden, My Sanctuary, My Place of Peace

While I look forward to the longer, warmer days of spring and summer again, I am also enjoying winter and the activities inside the house.

Last year Russ and I completed some much-needed renovations to our kitchen and dining space. After so many years of wear and tear, things were beginning to fall apart or needed to be replaced, and it was time. Anyone who has been through remodeling knows that there’s a bit of pain in the process—it takes a lot of time, so many decisions, and disrupts your living space and routine.

Now that it’s complete and we are living in it, I just keep looking around at everything in admiration. Building construction and remodeling fascinate me. Walls were torn down, wires and pipes were moved around, new materials were put in place, and the drywall, paint, and trim were installed. There were so many details that had to be worked out and put in place. Between all of the moving parts put together by the designers and our contractor (and friend and neighbor), Josh Griffith, I am amazed at the transformation! I was in awe along the way– from creating the plan and vision to the level of skill and talent of the construction crew, electrician, and plumber. There is something so special about using our minds and creativity to come up with a plan and then use our two hands to build it.

This all made me think of how much fun it is to help all of you to transform your landscapes and gardens.

It’s so rewarding to see the before and after photos of our landscape work and see the impact it has on the homeowners. Or when something even as simple as hanging one of our baskets on a porch, placing a houseplant in your office, or growing your own tomatoes can greatly improve your health and happiness.

Our living spaces and gardens have a great impact on our mental and physical health. Things like natural light, colors, layout, organization, plants, and outdoor views can all make a significant improvement to our mood, energy level, and focus. Our home is our sanctuary and where we find rest. How will you make your home and garden more of a retreat this year? Let us know if we can help!

Happy garden planning,
