The June Perennial and Houseplant of the Month
Tickseed Li’l BangÔ ‘Enchanted Eve’ and Aloe ‘Pink Blush’
We’re paying a little more well deserved attention to a select perennial and select houseplant each month. You’ll find them in the garden center, and when you download the free Bedner’s app, you’ll save $2 on your perennial and houseplant purchases during their month in the spotlight.
Tickseed Li’l Bang ‘Enchanted Eve’
Tickseed seems like an odd name, right? Well, Coreopsis’ common name comes from the perennial’s seeds that happen to resemble tiny ticks…but are much, much nicer to have around.
The Li’l Bang series of Tickseed has a compact habit for smaller spaces. But its smaller stature doesn’t limit its ability to produce flowers. Blooms are prolific, with golden-yellow centers and petal edges, plus an ombre-flush of red fanning out around its face.
Tickseed is hardy, disease resistant and perfect for attracting pollinators like butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. Yours will do well in small gardens, containers and as borders along walkways and cottage gardens.
Your tickseed will thrive in full sun, summer through fall, with little to no maintenance. In extreme heat or containers, you’ll want to give yours added moisture.
Aloe ‘Pink Blush’
We’ve all seen handsome Aloe plants and marveled at their ability to grow with care bordering on neglect. Aloe ‘Pink Blush’ is a very drought-tolerant clumping succulent that stays small—yours will grow to just about one foot tall and wide with very little intervention.
Pink Blush has distinctive textured leaves, variegated with a pattern of light and dark green pigments and lined with a fresh pink, toothy border. This will be the plant people ask about!
Place yours in a bright room that is full of sun or in a south-facing window. Let yours dry out completely before watering, then water well.
Remember, when you download the free Bedner’s Farm & Greenhouse app, you’ll save on a new Perennial and Houseplant every month.
