Snow Much Fun
Snow Much Fun
I hope this finds you well after the recent snowstorm—and now, the bitter cold. We all have different perspectives when it comes to weather like this, don’t we? Some love the snow and can’t wait to hit the slopes. Others are thinking about the realities: plowing and shoveling, tricky road conditions, school cancellations, frozen pipes.
Around the farm on Sunday, Russ’s main challenge was the greenhouses. Several times throughout the day, he was inside pushing snow off from beneath the structures to prevent the weight from becoming too much. And since baby plants began arriving last week (YAY!), checking propane levels and monitoring furnaces is now a constant from here until spring.
Despite all the challenges a snowstorm can bring, there’s nothing like experiencing it through an 8-year-old’s eyes. I love a quiet walk after a fresh snowfall, and while I was inside one of the greenhouses admiring what the team planted last week, I heard a burst of commotion—yelling, laughing, pure joy. I stepped outside and quickly spotted the source: our daughter, Ruth.
What created more work for Russ became a winter wonderland for her. As he knocked snow off the greenhouses, Ruth positioned herself directly underneath the sliding snow. Not exactly a waterfall—but a snowfall, I guess! Much to her delight, and definitely to our amusement.
And yes—those baby plants really are here. We’re officially back at it!
The first week of planting is always so exciting, and we can’t wait to fill the greenhouses for you. If you haven’t seen yet, pre-orders are open now. Some favorites—like the tricolor SunPatiens (my personal favorite!) and fruit trees—are available by pre-order only and won’t be found in the garden center. We’re also taking special orders for Massarelli stone garden accents. I have several pieces at home myself, and all of my larger pots are Massarelli’s. You can view the catalog and reach out to our Retail Manager to place an order.
This may be an especially tough week for many of us with the winter weather, and life really is about perspective. As Charles Swindoll says, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” Sometimes, stopping to see the world through the eyes of a child makes all the difference.
With warm wishes—and hope for spring,
