I’m taking mental notes and photos of my lush August annual plantings and getting ideas on some garden editing. I love the impact and splashes of color from my sunpatiens and annual pennisetum rubrum grass. Then there are my pots of angel’s trumpet and oleander. I replaced a small hanging basket I didn’t water enough at our girls’ playset.

There’s just too much time left in the growing season to look at something that isn’t blooming and beautiful. My perennial geranium boom chocolatta is blooming like crazy, and the perennial hibiscus and anemone are all budded up. I love to do a daily walk around to take it all in, enjoy it in the moment, then have fun letting new ideas and possibilities swirl in my mind. A few notes this week:

  • Our fall crop of annuals and mums are coming along nicely, so watch for some in store by the middle of the month, with the full fall lineup ready next month.

  • Save the date for our Fall Open House on Sunday, September 10. Fall workshops will be posted any day now.

  • Did you know we have a potting station? Bring your favorite college student to choose houseplants, plus pottery for their dorm or apartment aesthetic, then pot it up before you leave. We’ll clean up the mess! The health benefits of having plants where we live and learn are remarkable. Learn more here

  • Join our blood drive Fri/Aug 11. All donors receive a $10 Bedner’s gift card. Register here

  • How about a little business networking at Bites & Brews Thurs/Aug 17 from 6:30-9pm at Bedner’s, compliments of two of our local Chambers of Commerce? RSVP here

  • Did you know we have a wine bar at the greenhouse? It’s open for tastings, plus wine is available for purchase by the glass (and bottle) every Saturday and Sunday from 11am-3pm. We have both wine slush and n/a slush options on weekends, too.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for supporting our family business. Wishing you great garden joy this week.
