Hi friends,
I hope that you’ve been able to enjoy the great weather this past week. Russ and I got to have some fun in the garden on Sunday. We cleaned out our container gardens, pulled out annuals from beds, blew leaves… ok that part wasn’t so much the fun stuff. But in a way it really is fun… using our two hands to take what was the remnants of summer plants and leaves, and transform it into something that once again looks neat and pleasing to the eye.
I got some planting done too– coneflower, butterfly bush, monarda, agastache, and sedum in a large bed behind our house. We admire this bed most from our kitchen window. I also had a blast replanting a large planter next to our garage with Winter Sizzle plants… makes me so happy! Follow this link to see the transformation.

Here’s what’s new this week:
- new arrivals include some beautiful houseplants– Christmas cactus, kalanchoe, cyclamen, rosemary standards, norfolk island pine, goldcrest trees, and more.
- the last two amaryllis workshops were such a success that we’ve added another one on for this Saturday at 3:30pm. If you don’t want to attend in person, there is an option to purchase the kit and DIY at home.
- we’re excited to announce a Challenge Plant Competition! It’s going to be a fun way for us all to stay connected until next April. Check out the details below.
- we’re coordinating an Angel Tree program for 47 residents of a low-income senior housing building in Canonsburg. The Angels will be on our Christmas tree in the greenhouse by this Saturday, 11/14, and your unwrapped gifts are due back to us by December 11. Help us to spread some holiday cheer!
- we’re putting together some grab-n-go gift baskets for the holidays, and some will be ready and available beginning this weekend. We’ll be creating assortments, large and small, of gardening items, food items, and Christmas decor. Pair them with a Bedner’s Gift Card for your favorite gardener or foodie.
- we’ve added some wine tastings to the calendar. Russ will be giving samples of his wines and answering any of your questions. See below for dates and times.
Thank you for reading, and have a great day!
Melanie
