Hi Friends,
Summer is officially here and I bet most of you have done the bulk of your planting for the season by now. If you haven’t planted yet, we are here for you with great plants all summer and fall. Maybe you need a fresh pop of color somewhere, or the deer/rabbits/groundhogs have been nibbling on your plants, or your toddler has ripped your plants apart (yep, just the other day at our house), we’ve got your back with fresh replacements.
Spring isn’t the only time to plant, so don’t give up your plans to work on special project that you’ve always wanted to do either! Now that the spring rush is over, we’d be happy to set up a personal appointment with you so that you have the undivided attention from one of our pros. Let me know here and we can get you scheduled.

Speaking of pros, I have to brag on three of our Team members that recently became Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturists (PCH) through the PA Landscape and Nursery Association. Congratulations to Russ Bedner, Tristan Stayduhar, and John Vacco!! We are proud of your hard work and commitment to excellence in our industry.
Here’s what’s new this week–
- fresh nursery arrivals this Friday include a butterfly bush called ‘Buzz Hot Raspberry’, ninebark, four varieties of daylilies, Blue Star junipers, Double Knockout Roses, and more!
- we’re putting the final touches on the summer class schedule. Every Thursday night from 5:30-7:30pm beginning July 9 we’ll have an after-hours workshop or seminar, along with some time to mingle and/or shop the greenhouse. Russ’ wine will be available if you choose to enjoy a glass or bottle with friends. Stay tuned for the list and sign-ups.
- our store hours will change for the month of July and August. We’ll be open Wednesday – Sunday from 9-5pm, and CLOSED on Mondays and Tuesdays.
- our greenhouse production manager, Erin, and crew are planting a new crop of perennials this week, which includes agastache, milkweed, coreopsis, a bee balm series called Sugar Buzz, five varieties of sedum, toad lily, and more! Look for most of these to be ready in about 4 weeks.
- if you’re looking for a nice stone fountain, statue, bench or planter, we’re taking special orders for Massarelli this week. You can find the link to their catalog below.
I hope you find some time in nature this week. In a collection of essays called Everything in It’s Place, Dr. Oliver Sacks says that “the effects of nature’s qualities on health are not only spiritual and emotional but physical and neurological.” He says, ” I have no doubt that they reflect deep changes in the brain’s physiology and perhaps even its structure.” Read more about what he has to say about the healing power of gardens here.
Take care,
Melanie
